Acupuncture is a wonderful tool to help you heal yourself. This is achieved using extremely fine needles that tap into energetic points on the body. Many people are aware of its value in treating pain, but it can help seemingly diverse conditions from blocked sinuses to menopause. This is because acupuncture is part of an ancient Oriental Medicine that tends not to put labels on a condition, but looks at the complex interaction of all the body's systems to treat you individually.. So your arthritis, or skin complaint, may be treated very differently from the next patient. This is completely unlike the Western approach of giving everyone the same prescription for the same condition.
Acupuncture is generally a very relaxing experience, in fact many people fall asleep during treatment. But it’s also a powerful tool in restoring health, and needs a certain level of commitment. As your acupuncturist, I will take time and care to consider the best possible treatment plan for you and discuss that with you, as well as your expectations. Acupuncture works best when we build on a series of treatments. Some conditions take longer than others, but expect around 4 - 6 treatments which may be weekly or more spread out. It's often said that Chinese Medicine takes a lifetime of learning. So do your research. Choose an acupuncturist with a minimum degree level qualification, and affiliated to a professional body. Be cautious of practitioners who may only have done a weekend course in 'dry needling' and are ready to put needles in, without the knowledge needed to understand their true effect.
